In Buildings and Blind Spots, students collaborate with Academy alumni in the field of art, design and architecture. Alumni provide prompts germane to their own practice that provide a methodology and framework for students to explore and critique the immediate urban fabric of our school. Through meetings, email, and social media, students and alumni have an ongoing dialogue and critique to develop ideas and new work. Students examine urban renewal precedents and speculative models that have a lasting influence on the rationale and imagination of contemporary planning and design.
Demonstrating the intersection of research and invention, art and architecture, this exhibition includes interventions in the neighborhood, installations in The Academy building, and culminates in a student presentation. Conceptually complex yet pedagogically accessible, this project focuses on makers and an audience of teens, community and educators.
