The UChicago Arts, Science & Culture Initiative presents a pair of temporary sculptures by Chicago-based international artist Dan Peterman (MFA’86), recently represented in the 2017 Documenta. The first is composed of thousands of “Z-Forms”—post-consumer reprocessed plastic cut in the form of a Z. The second is constructed from the fragments that remain once the Z-forms are cut. Slipping and Jamming is created by randomly placing these elements, linking them by friction rather than fasteners. The elements autonomously configure to attain load-bearing capability. Supported by the University of Chicago Public Art Committee.
This exhibition will run October 3 – November 30, 2017.
