Architectural historian, theorist, and author Charles Rice discusses aspects of his recent book Interior Urbanism, reflecting on the way in which the work of architect John Portman has gained prominence in the last few years and what this might mean for critical accounts of urban development.
Charles Rice is Professor of Architecture at the University of Technology Sydney. He is the author of The Emergence of the Interior: Architecture, Modernity, Domesticity (Routledge, 2007) and Interior Urbanism: Architecture, John Portman and Downtown America (Bloomsbury, 2016). He is editor in chief of The Journal of Architecture, the scholarly journal of the RIBA.
