During the Chicago Architecture Biennial, Landmarks Illinois focuses its Preservation Snapshots lecture series on the Biennial’s theme, "Making New History," to examine how re-envisioning an existing place, whether through preservation or adaptive reuse, reshapes its meaning and defines a new future. "A Living Tradition" presents the ongoing great collection of painted exterior murals from different generations and multicultural experiences in Chicago's Pilsen and Little Village neighborhoods.
"A Living Tradition" is presented by Rebeca Fernandez. Rebeca is a licensed architect from Mexico City and currently an entrepreneur and emerging professional in historic preservation in Chicago. She completed her studies in architecture at the Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana and worked for over nine years as a consultant architect in her native city. In 2006, she moved to Pilsen where she became passionate about the historic neighborhoods motivating her to earn a Master Degree in Historic Preservation at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC).
