ELEVATION: The Rise of Beverly/Morgan Park
September 17, 2017 – January 1, 2018
Beverly/Morgan Park is arguably the most unique and architecturally significant residential neighborhood in the City of Chicago. Its extraordinary glacial beginnings and resulting topography combined with the mid-19th century introduction of the Rock Island commuter rail line spurred a steady development of well-designed and crafted residences from the late 19th century through the building boom of post-World War II. This architectural heritage has resulted in one of the nation’s largest urban residential landmark districts with more than 3000 homes in its catalog. Nearly every style home from traditional to modern is represented with design contributions of many renowned architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, H.H. Waterman, Walter Burley Griffin, G.W. Maher, John & Murray Hetherington, Keck and Keck, Ed Dart and many others. The exhibition celebrates Beverly/Morgan Parks exceptional history and architectural pedigree while also seeking to engage the local and visiting community in a dialog for the future vision of the neighborhood.
