Nuclear Thresholds
September 30, 2017–January 7, 2018

In recognition of this December’s 75th anniversary of the Chicago Pile-1 experiment—and the 50th anniversary of Henry Moore’s sculpture, Nuclear Energy—UChicago Arts and Ogrydziak Prillinger Architects present an architectural installation on the CP-1 site. Based on computational modeling of unstable processes, the installation creates a material threshold around Nuclear Energy that resonates at radically different scales, recalling the physical, historical, and existential thresholds CP-1 crossed, and provoking deep questions about the site, scale, and meaning of this world-altering event.
